St Charles Old Settlers

The longest running community event started with a picnic back in 1885.  It is a weekend celebration for the community by the community.  Participation by residents, businesses, and organizations within the community is what keeps the celebration alive.

Many traditions were established and carried on from year to year – mailing of invitations to members who had moved away, signing of a guestbook, actual business meeting on Friday afternoon prior to the celebration, games, music, and good food. Some are still carried through to this day especially the honoring of prominent “Old Settlers” or important community figures. Others have been lost over time. The celebration is a mixture of the old traditions and new events. We must keep moving forward by remembering our past.

The event is held on the third full weekend in July- usually the hottest weekend of the summer.  We have learned to embrace the heat and plan activities accordingly and at appropriate times of the day.

The Lions Club and the Old Settlers Committee are the primary organizers of the event but everyone is invited and encouraged to get involved.   Some events are rides and games for the kids, 5K Run/Walk, Parade, cook offs, corn hole tournaments, 3 on 3 basketball tournament, mud volleyball, Cow Pie Bingo, shows, bands and music performances.  The schedule changes from year to year.  Join us.  We have a great time.
