Boat Shaped Pizza

Boat Shaped Pizza

While visiting Turkey not so long ago, I tried boat-shaped pizza. At first, I thought it was unusual, but later I discovered the Greeks have their own version. The Turkish pizza is made with ground beef, while the Greek pizza is made with kasseri cheese, a classic Greek cheese. There is also a difference in dough thickness between Turkish and Greek pizza. While Italian pizza has a thin crust, Turkish and Greek pizza have a fluffier and thicker one.

Calzone pizza may seem like boat-shaped pizza, but guess again – this boat-shaped pizza is inspired by Turkish and Greek versions, has nothing to do with Italian pizza in terms of crust, and is perfect for pizza lovers who prefer crust with a lot of filling.

What Is So Special About This Pizza?

This pizza is a must-try. I know not many people like thick crust pizzas, but this one is pillowy and so addictive. Thick crusts are my favorite because they contain a bit of yeast to make the dough airy, and when that flavor combines with the toppings, it makes for an amazing combination. It has a rustic feel in terms of appearance and flavor, and if you’re looking for something new, then try this pizza.

How To Make Boat-Shaped Pizza

The dough or pizza base is made from flour, salt, yeast, sugar, and water. Whisk together flour and salt. Mix the yeast together with sugar and lukewarm water in a separate bowl. Once the yeast has risen and is bubbling, incorporate the yeast with the rest of the water into the flour mixture.

Punch down the dough after it has doubled in size and divide it into portions after it has been kneaded until smooth. It’s time to turn the path around, when making Italian pizza we usually roll it out into a circle. I divided my dough into two portions, but you can divide it into four.

To make a boat-shaped pizza, shape the dough into an ellipse and pinch the ends together. The pinch length should be at least 2 inches to prevent the ends of the pizza from opening. The tomato paste can also be spread and the topping added before shaping the ends, but this will make your pizza messy.

The tomato sauce made pinching the edges difficult because one came with smeared edges and one came with a bit smeared edges. Bake your pizza with desired toppings.

Which Toppings To Use

Two pizzas were made:

  • Parmesan, mushrooms, and tomato sauce

  • On top, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, fresh cherry tomatoes, and an egg

In addition to these, you can add anything you like!

How To Elevate Your Boat-Shaped Pizza

It’s a perfect pizza, but if you want to elevate it, I have a good trick. I like pizza with stuffed crusts, and you can try this here also. You will have enough dough to pull it a bit more without ruining the shape. When you stretch your pizza, sprinkle some cheese around the edges and fold the dough over the pizza. Do not add cheese to your pinching points. With this simple trick, you can make cheesy crust and enjoy your pizza every bite.
