Chicken fries are a delicious, kid-friendly, and quick snack or meal that you can make in your air fryer! Chicken fries coated in a crispy mixture of breadcrumbs, crushed potato chips, and Parmesan cheese are my favorite. Dip them in ranch dressing or spicy mayonnaise for a complete meal, or serve with mashed potatoes and salad.

Chicken breasts are ideal for slicing, but chicken tenders can also be used to make chicken fries. You can get perfectly shaped, firm yet juicy chicken fries from this part of the chicken. You can also choose chicken tenders or thighs, but chicken breasts are the best cut to use if you want a clean cut for your chicken fries.

When it comes to seasoning, season the chicken fries however you want. Personally, I prefer to keep my seasonings simple — in most cases, I simply use a combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. If you want to add a fun twist, use seasoned chips, such as paprika- or Nacho-cheese-flavored chips.

Homemade Air Fryer Chicken Fries

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 8 minutes

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 boneless and skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 cups potato chips
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

1. Preheat the air fryer to 390 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Slice the chicken breasts into 12″ thick slices. Season the chicken generously with salt and pepper.

3. In a mixing bowl, combine the eggs, melted butter, and half of the onion and garlic powders.

4. Grind the potato chips in a food processor until coarsely ground. Combine the potato chips, breadcrumbs, and remaining spices in a mixing bowl.
5. Shake off any excess egg mixture from the chicken. Coat the chicken in the panko-panko mixture.

6. Arrange each chicken fry in the air fryer basket, making sure they don’t touch (you can always cook additional batches).
7. Cook for 8 to 9 minutes, shaking or turning halfway. Repeat with the rest of the chicken fries.

8. Serve the chicken fries hot with your choice of dipping sauce and side dishes.

Notes

After breading, place the chicken fries in the freezer for a few minutes to help the coating stick to the chicken meat better.
Cook the chicken fries in the air fryer at 390°F while maintaining the proper temperature.
Cook the chicken fries in batches to ensure a flawlessly crispy result. Don’t let the fries cross each other. A shake of the air fryer basket is also recommended halfway through cooking.
