Homemade Air Fryer Chicken Fries

Homemade Air Fryer Chicken Fries

Chicken fries are a delicious, kid-friendly, and quick snack or meal that you can make in your air fryer! Chicken fries coated in a crispy mixture of breadcrumbs, crushed potato chips, and Parmesan cheese are my favorite. Dip them in ranch dressing or spicy mayonnaise for a complete meal, or serve with mashed potatoes and salad.

Best Part Of The Chicken To Use

Chicken breasts are ideal for slicing, but chicken tenders can also be used to make chicken fries. You can get perfectly shaped, firm yet juicy chicken fries from this part of the chicken. You can also choose chicken tenders or thighs, but chicken breasts are the best cut to use if you want a clean cut for your chicken fries.

How To Season Chicken Fries

When it comes to seasoning, season the chicken fries however you want. Personally, I prefer to keep my seasonings simple — in most cases, I simply use a combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Dried herbs, spicy chili powder, curry powder, Ranch seasoning mix, or any desired spice blend can be added if desired. You can’t go wrong with chicken and most spices. If you want to add a fun twist, use seasoned chips, such as paprika- or Nacho-cheese-flavored chips.

Why The Air Fryer Is Best

The best thing about an air fryer is that it transforms unhealthy food into something healthier. An air fryer is a perfect appliance for so many things. You can significantly reduce the amount of fat and calories in your food by using an air fryer, which only needs a small amount of cooking spray. Additionally, air frying offers the same crisp texture as deep frying without using as much unhealthy oil! You can steam some delectable vegetables (like green beans or broccoli) to serve on the side while you air fry your chicken fries in just 8 minutes, giving your kids a healthier lunch option.

Store-Bought Vs Homemade Chicken Fries

Like many dishes, it’s easy to argue that the homemade version is always better than the frozen version — and this recipe is no exception. If you have the time and energy, you will not be disappointed if you try this from-scratch option. The do-it-yourself method allows you to choose your favorite chicken cut as well as the chips, breadcrumbs, and spices. However, on those hectic weeknights, there’s no shame in taking the easy route — we still hope you’ll give this recipe a try!

Serving Suggestions

Serve these crispy chicken fries as an entrée with roasted vegetables, mashed or smashed potatoes, and a fresh salad. With your favorite dipping sauce, they make a fantastic appetizer or midday snack. Chicken fries, like most fried foods, will lose their crunchiness after sitting out for a while, so they’re best eaten right after preparation. If there are any leftovers, they can be refrigerated for up to three days if they are sealed well.

Homemade Air Fryer Chicken Fries

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 8 minutes

Servings: 4

  • 2 boneless and skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 cups potato chips
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese

1. Preheat the air fryer to 390 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Slice the chicken breasts into 12″ thick slices. Season the chicken generously with salt and pepper.

3. In a mixing bowl, combine the eggs, melted butter, and half of the onion and garlic powders.

4. Grind the potato chips in a food processor until coarsely ground. Combine the potato chips, breadcrumbs, and remaining spices in a mixing bowl.
5. Shake off any excess egg mixture from the chicken. Coat the chicken in the panko-panko mixture.

6. Arrange each chicken fry in the air fryer basket, making sure they don’t touch (you can always cook additional batches).
7. Cook for 8 to 9 minutes, shaking or turning halfway. Repeat with the rest of the chicken fries.

8. Serve the chicken fries hot with your choice of dipping sauce and side dishes.

After breading, place the chicken fries in the freezer for a few minutes to help the coating stick to the chicken meat better.
Cook the chicken fries in the air fryer at 390°F while maintaining the proper temperature.
Cook the chicken fries in batches to ensure a flawlessly crispy result. Don’t let the fries cross each other. A shake of the air fryer basket is also recommended halfway through cooking.
