Keto Gravy

Keto Gravy

Easy Keto gravy can be made in five minutes with only five ingredients. It’s great with cauliflower mash, turkey, beef, or chicken. This delicious gravy comes together in minutes. Its flavor is not overpowering, which makes it an ideal addition to meatloaf or baked turkey. You can now enjoy your Keto diet meals with something extra with this gravy!

What Is Keto Gravy?

In contrast to other gravies, keto gravy does not contain flour. Known for its low-carb and high-fat ingredients, the Keto diet does not use plain flour, which is high in carbohydrates. Besides flour, many gravies include cornstarch, another high-carb ingredient. Making a gravy without anything to thicken it won’t result in a quality gravy. You can thicken gravy by adding xanthan gum just like you would use flour or cornstarch in classic recipes.

There are three main ingredients in this gravy: broth, butter, and xanthan gum. In addition to these, onions and garlic powder are also included. Thyme is my favorite herb to add. Besides beef broth, you can also use chicken stock, or even better – the meat drippings. Meat drippings can be turned into a delicious gravy, but for now, we’ll stick with beef broth.

How To Add Xanthan Gum

You cannot add xanthan gum at any stage of the gravy-making process. Adding the xanthan gum to warm ingredients will cause it to clump together, leaving your gravy thin with nasty white lumps. The trick is to add it to cold ingredients. Make sure your beef broth is cold before adding the xanthan gum. Also, warm the gravy slowly so the xanthan gum can react and thicken your gravy.

How To Store Leftover Gravy

Even though I’m pretty sure you will use all the gravy, just in case you wish to make more, here is how to store it properly. Gravy is like liquid gold, and you shouldn’t waste a drop. Sadly, gravy is quite a perishable item. In the refrigerator, gravy will last only two days. Fortunately, freezing gravy extends its shelf life.

Alternatively, you can freeze leftover gravy in ice cube trays and use just a little at a time by placing it in a zip-lock bag, flattening it, and storing it in the fridge for up to one month. Just pop the gravy out and reheat it in the microwave or on the stovetop.

Tips For The Best Keto Gravy

Making Keto gravy can be made easier if you follow a few tips:

  • The most important thing is that the broth is cold. If the broth isn’t cold, the xanthan gum will clump up and ruin your gravy.

  • This gravy can be made with beef broth, but turkey, chicken, or even vegetable broth can be used. If you like, you can add some drippings to enhance the flavor.

  • Make sure the drippings are at room temperature before using them, as they have an intense flavor.

  • After cooking, you can strain the gravy through a fine-mesh sieve to get a perfectly smooth gravy.
