Pesto Pasta With Tuna

Pesto Pasta With Tuna

This is THE pesto pasta recipe I want to make all the time. If you love pesto pasta and tuna, you’re going to love this recipe. This pasta is the perfect weekend meal with al dente pasta, tender tuna pieces, and fragrant pesto. While tuna pesto pasta is certainly a full meal on its own, a simple side dish like fresh tomato salad or arugula salad is always a nice complement.

Choosing The Right Pasta

To make tuna pesto pasta, I chose spiral pasta, but any tube-shaped pasta will do, as these types of pasta can hold a lot of pesto.

Ingredients For Pesto

With just a little rich creaminess, this pesto sauce clings to pasta easily. You can use store-bought pesto or make your own pesto.

The following materials will be needed to make your own:

  • Leaves of basil, 12 cups

  • Parmesan cheese, 2 tablespoons

  • Olive oil with 2 tablespoons of extra virgin

  • Garlic minced to 1 tsp

  • 1 12 tbsp pine nuts or walnuts

  • To taste, salt and pepper

Add parmesan, garlic, and basil to the processor and process until coarse. Scrape down the sides as necessary. Once the pesto is smooth and creamy, stop the processor and season it with salt and pepper to taste. Slowly drizzle the olive oil into the processor while it runs at slow speed.

Can I Use Jarred Pesto?

Any pesto sauce will work in this recipe. However, when choosing a pesto, go with familiar brands and avoid manufacturers with low prices. Low prices will not meet your high expectations.

Choosing The Tuna

This recipe calls for canned tuna, but if you don’t have any leftover fresh cooked tuna, canned tuna will work perfectly. In terms of fresh tuna, there is not much to discuss. You must check its texture, smell, and overall appearance. If the tuna is not strange in texture or smell, and the color is nice and red, then you can safely buy it.

There are many things that go wrong with canned tuna. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bought bad tuna. The bad tuna wasn’t bad because of its expiration date, but because of its quality.

Here are some tips and what to look for:

  • When choosing tuna, always choose chunks or fillets. Tuna in this form is of better quality than tuna in small pieces. I used tuna fillets for this dish.

  • Invest in oil-packed tuna – Some say you should buy tuna in olive oil, or just buy chicken. If your tuna is packed in water, all the flavor is in that water. Oil-packed tuna seals in the flavor, and it gives you some luxurious fat.

  • Some of my favorite products come in jars, not cans; some good stuff comes in cans, but many of my favorites come in jars. A jarred tuna is a good choice if you don’t know what to look for in a can of tuna. The jar lets you see the contents, so you know what you’re purchasing.

How To Serve Tuna Pesto Pasta

As a rich dish, you can serve this pasta alone, but if you want something extra, you can add:

  • Just a slice or two of garlic bread

  • You can serve spinach and arugula salad or pear and walnut salad as a fresh salad

Variations On The Recipe

While this recipe is basic, I wanted to leave some spaces to fill in. Ingredients for this recipe include:

  • Serve the pasta with pitted green or black olives stirred through it

  • You can make this pasta more creamy by stirring cream cheese into the warm pasta.

  • Toss some tomatoes into the pasta just before serving to complement the tuna and pesto.
