Ube Brownies

Ube Brownies

Ube is a new ingredient I’ve been experimenting with. I love how it tastes in desserts, and I love how it transforms any dessert into a beautiful purple spectacle! I set a goal for myself at the beginning of this month to use ube in more of my recipes. So what better way to begin than with brownies? Brownies are the simplest dessert to make and the ultimate crowd pleaser! Ube brownies are ideal for family gatherings, but they can also be served at any party. They have the perfect flavor and appearance and will appeal to everyone. If you want to make these brownies, the recipe is right below.

What Is Ube?

Purple yams, coconut milk, and butter are the ingredients for the Filipino dessert ube jam. Ube halaya jam can be used to make a variety of desserts or eaten as a snack. These brownies are a great place to start when using this ingredient in any number of amazing recipes. Ube jam is typically sold in your neighborhood Filipino grocery store, but if not, you can order one online or make your own at home!

What Does Ube Taste Like?

After many uses of ube in desserts and as a snack, I still find it difficult to describe the flavor of ube because it is so distinct and unlike anything else I’ve tried. That being said, I must attempt to describe it! I’ll go with… mild and sweet. Is it similar to regular sweet potatoes? But with balancing notes of vanilla, white chocolate, and pistachio, it’s slightly earthier. Try ube bubble tea if you ever get the chance — you’ll see what I mean! Fortunately, ube has become more popular in recent years, and you can now sample a variety of ube-flavored desserts to determine whether you like the ube flavor or not.

How To Make Ube Jam

Here is the recipe for a delicious homemade treat if you want to practice your cooking abilities and make ube jam. This jam is a crucial component of the following recipe, which we’ll share below: brownies with ube

Ingredients

  • 2 cups grated ube
  • 14 oz condensed milk
  • 13 oz coconut milk
  • 12 oz evaporated milk
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup of American processed cheese
  • (Optional) 2-3 drops ube extract

Instructions

1. Combine grated ube, condensed milk, coconut milk, evaporated milk, butter, and sugar in a large saucepot. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently, until the sugar is dissolved.
2. If you’re using it, add some ube extract (not more than 2-3 drops). Reduce the heat to low and continue to stir for 30 minutes, or until a sticky dough-like mixture forms.
3. Stir in the American processed cheese and continue to cook for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese melts.
4. Spoon the ube jam into jars and set aside to cool before storing.

How To Make Ube Brownies

This recipe is so wonderful in so many ways. First of all, this is a one-bowl recipe, the simplest kind of recipe that only needs a bowl to prepare! You can combine everything by hand without any special tools. Not even a mixer is required! It is also made with actual ube, as opposed to many other recipes that only use ube extract or very little ube jam to flavor the traditional blondies. This recipe uses a lot of ube jam, which gives it a lot of ube flavor. And lastly, the brownies have a spectacular appearance. They look amazing. White chocolate and purple brownies are the ideal complement to one another.

Ube Brownies

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 30 minutes

Servings: 12 brownies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ cup muscovado sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 small eggs
  • 2 cups ube jam
  • 1 tbsp ube extract
  • 2½ cups cake flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips or chopped chocolate

Notes

Muscovado sugar will make your brownies stickier and more fudgy than granulated sugar!
Remember that it is better to underbake the ube brownies than to overbake them. Start testing your brownies 10 minutes before the end of the baking time specified in the recipe. Because our ovens differ, you don’t want to end up with dry brownies.
Use high-quality ube jam — Because this is the main ingredient, use the best you can find or make your own at home. It’s simple to make and can be used in a variety of recipes.
Don’t overmix the batter; instead, stir until just combined. Overmixing your brownies after adding the flour results in dry, crumbly brownies.
Make use of good white chocolate. To be honest, I used chocolate chips that weren’t very temperature resistant, so when I added white chocolate chips to the batter, they melted right in. Fortunately, I topped them with good white chocolate and saved them — the flavor was perfect! I did miss the white chocolate pieces scattered throughout the batter, though. So, don’t be like me and use baking chocolate chips instead of regular chocolate chips.

Instructions

1. Set the oven to 350 degrees. Using parchment paper, line a 9-inch baking pan.

2. Cream butter, sugar, and eggs in a bowl until fluffy.

3. Add the ube extract and jam.

4. Mix just until combined after adding the flour and baking powder. Add 34 cup of the white chocolate chips or white chocolate at the end.

5. Place the remaining chocolate on top of the batter after pouring it into the baking dish.

6. For 30 minutes, bake the brownies.

7. Before cutting and serving, let the brownies cool in the baking dish.
