As a breakfast casserole lover, I had plenty of recipes I considered to be excellent. I pulled this one out of the oven and it was better than anything I’d ever tried. The best breakfast casserole I’ve ever had! It has hash browns, chicken, creamy toppings, and extra cheese on top!
Breakfast lovers will love this golden delicacy because it is easy to make and has enough flavor to satisfy even pickiest brunch eaters. This hash brown casserole walks the line between breakfast and brunch. There are many kinds of hash brown casseroles, but this one is one of the best!
What Is The Secret Of This Casserole?
As opposed to other casseroles, this one relies heavily on cream cheese and sour cream for its supreme sliceability.
Ingredients
Hash browns are the main ingredient in this casserole, but there are many other options you can try. The hash browns I used for this one were already pre-made and kept in an airtight container in the freezer after I made them a couple of days ago. If you do not want to make your own hash browns, you can buy store-bought ones. You can choose from plain or seasoned hash browns.
There is no right or wrong when it comes to patty-shaped or plain shredded hash browns. You can tear patty-shaped hash browns into pieces if you like. Alternatively, you can layer them in a casserole dish as they are and top with a creamy chicken cheese mixture. When it comes to chicken, rotisserie breasts are best, but you can also use other parts of the chicken, whether cubed, shredded, or torn.
Can I Use Frozen Hash Browns?
When baking hash browns from frozen, the heat will spread unevenly, as with any other ingredient. In addition, since the casseroles are frozen, some extra liquid may appear as well, preventing the casseroles from cooking properly.
Add-Ins
The casserole is pretty basic, but it tastes great. If you want to alter the flavors a bit, here are some ideas:
-
Layer colorful bell peppers over the hash browns. Chop a variety of bell peppers and layer them on top.
-
Over the cooked casserole, sprinkle some chopped bacon on top. Cook the bacon and crumble it.
-
If you want to try something different, you can replace the chicken with cooked ground sausage.
Choosing The Right Cheese
Casserole can be made with several types of cheese, but not all cheeses are created equal. There is no doubt that mozzarella is the king of melty cheeses. It has the perfect balance of moisture and elasticity. The other type of cheese, like cheddar, is a popular addition to many cheese blends, but it is not recommended for use alone.
When baking, cheddar does not melt well compared to cheeses such as mozzarella or provolone. However, if you wish to use cheddar, stick with the younger varieties since they maintain their moisture longer.
