Honey lemon pepper wings are sweet, tangy, tender, and delicious. They make the perfect appetizer or side dish. A simple recipe that requires just a few ingredients and not too much skill. Lemon juice and zest give these chicken wings a bright lemon flavor, while honey adds a pleasant sweetness. The best thing about this recipe is it will be ready in less than an hour, making it a great dinner and party appetizer.
Star Ingredients
For this recipe to really shine, chicken wings, honey, and lemon pepper are essential ingredients, but here is an explanation of why each is essential:
-
Fresh or frozen chicken wings can be purchased. If you choose frozen wings, make sure to defrost them overnight in the refrigerator before using.
-
There are different shapes of chicken wings, such as whole chicken wings, mini wings and drumsticks, and pre-cut chicken wings labelled as party wings.
-
-
There is no doubt that the most important flavor in this dish is lemon pepper, which is made from granulated lemon zest and black pepper. Although this seasoning can be used for many other dishes, my favorite method is to use it on chicken.
-
You can add more lemon juice if you want extra freshness. Always use fresh lemon juice, as it has the best flavor.
-
I suggest using plain honey for this dish. Do not use flavored honey, such as vanilla, cinnamon, or caramel sauce flavored honey. Although these are great for eating alone, they don’t work in savory dishes.
Preparing The Chicken Wings
Use frozen chicken wings after defrosting them overnight in the fridge.
Below is the full recipe, but just so you know what to expect, here’s how to prepare chicken wings:
-
The chicken wings should be seasoned with salt and pepper.
-
Make sure the chicken wings are floured.
-
Depending on your preference, you can either fry, air-fry, or bake your chicken wings in the oven. Any of these options are delicious.
-
You will just have to combine all the sauce ingredients in a sauce pot and simmer for a few minutes to make the honey sauce. Put the hot sauce over the warm chicken wings and toss gently to combine. Broil the wings for another three to five minutes. Your honey lemon pepper wings are ready!
How To Serve Honey Lemon Pepper Wings
The best way to enjoy these wings is to serve them immediately. They are most succulent and flavorful when they are freshly baked. You can reheat them in a preheated oven for 10-15 minutes at 350°F if you make them ahead.
Add chopped parsley, spring onions, or sesame seeds to these wings to make them even more delicious.
Considering how flavorful they are, I don’t serve them with any dip on the side. However, if you think a dip would work with these, please let me know. I just like to drizzle them with some lemon juice just before serving.
Tips For The Perfect Chicken
-
Many traditional recipes call for seasoning, oil, and heat, but cooking the skin is the real challenge. The best way to get the best crunch is to mix flour and salt. By drawing out some of the excess moisture and blistering the skin, these ingredients will produce a crispier wing.
-
You should make sure your oil is hot enough before frying wings. Otherwise, you will end up with a soggy pile of fat-soaked wings.
-
This is one of my favorite things to do. Double frying wings will make them even crispier and more juicy. It is not recommended to double fry wings with honey coatings because the honey may easily burn, but you can broil them for the same effect.
