Pink Pasta Sauce

Pink Pasta Sauce Recipe

The pink pasta sauce is made of tomato sauce and heavy cream. It comes together quickly from just a few ingredients. Choose your favorite pasta type, such as spaghetti, penne, fettuccine, or tagliatelle, and serve with it. A pink pasta sauce is simply a combination of tomato sauce and heavy cream, but it is an excellent sauce you should try.

My first experience of pink pasta sauce came while visiting the Middle East. Everywhere I looked, people were enjoying pasta with a sauce I hadn’t heard of. Naturally, I had to try it!

In the region, it is very popular, and my friend doesn’t know anyone who doesn’t like it. As soon as I came home, I began making my own. Creamy pasta made more approachable by the tang of tomato sauce and creaminess of the heavy cream.

Do I Need Heavy Cream?

As with tomato sauce, heavy cream is somehow always associated with pasta. There are many recipes that include heavy cream, including this one. What if you don’t want heavy cream, or you don’t have any?

My favorite substitute is half and half. Half and half is simply equal parts cream and milk, whereas heavy cream is just cream.

It is likely that your sauce will be thinner if you plan to use half and half, but you can avoid this by simmering it for a little longer.

In addition, I experimented with combining tomato sauce with béchamel sauce. I made the béchamel cream or sauce with 1 tablespoon butter and 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour.

After the mixture smelled like popcorn, I whisked in 1 cup of milk, and cooked the sauce until it thickened. I then combined the béchamel sauce with the tomato sauce.

Although it is easier to pour heavy cream from a carton, know that béchamel sauce will work just as well if you don’t have it.

How To Season Pink Sauce

If you want to add more flavor, you can add 1 cup of beef stock or a small splash of balsamic vinegar for a bit more tang. I just used salt, pepper, and dried Italian herbs in this recipe.

You can also add chili pepper flakes and Sriracha to make your sauce spicy.

Tomato Passata Or Tomato Paste?

A tomato passata is pureed and strained tomatoes, usually sold in bottles. It is 100% tomato without additives, unlike crushed or chopped tomatoes.

The tomato passata is also known as the tomato puree. If you think you can just blend crushed tomatoes to make passata, don’t be fooled.

You can’t just blend tomatoes and get passata. After they’re blended, they need to be strained and the residue is pushed through a fine mesh sieve.

Unlike tomato sauce, tomato passata contains no flavorings. Instead, look for tomato puree or tomato sauce without any flavorings.

It is not suitable for this type of sauce because of its thicker consistency and more intense tomato flavor.

Tips For The Perfect Pink Pasta Sauce

  • Make sure you do not overcook pasta if you are serving it with sauce. Overcooked pasta combined with sauce will turn out mushy.

  • The onions should be soft and almost like a paste when you add the tomato passata, but if there are chunks, you can blend them with the passata.

How To Serve Pink Pasta Sauce

You can serve it with pasta, but it also works well over chicken, seafood, and ravioli.
