Saffron Cream Sauce

Saffron Cream Sauce

A creamy saffron sauce will elevate your humble pasta into a restaurant-worthy dish. This saffron sauce has a wonderful aroma, making it a perfect addition to any meal. The price of saffron is justified due to its intensive labor and the fact that only a few threads are needed to elevate a dish.

A small package of saffron can last a long time. Its taste is earthy, sweet, and floral. It is packed in small quantities. Plastic or metallic-flavored saffron should be avoided because it is a cheap imitation of the real spice.

What Does Real Saffron Taste Like?

The taste of saffron is like nothing else. It is slightly sweet, yet earthy, and it has a rich almost honey-like smell. Quite complex in terms of taste, but something you must experience. The only substitute for saffron is turmeric, which can be combined with paprika and sugar to create something that tastes similar to saffron.

The most important part of this dish is the creamy saffron pasta, so I wouldn’t recommend substituting saffron for another ingredient.

How To Make Creamy Saffron Sauce

If you want to use saffron, you need to allow it to bloom in a hot or warm liquid.

In this recipe, saffron is added to hot, melted butter, but it can also be added to hot heavy cream. It doesn’t matter what you’re using, just make sure it’s hot.

In terms of how much saffron to use, I add a few threads to a generous pinch size, which gives the dish a rich, perfumed flavor.

Your creamy saffron pasta will still taste and look delicious with even a small amount of saffron.

What Pasta To Use

Tagliatelle worked for me, but pappardelle or any thick ribbon pasta will do. The shape of this pasta allows the sauce to cling to it.

If you would prefer something small shaped or flat, farfalle or spiral pasta will work well. Avoid tubular shapes like rigatoni or penne.

How To Serve Saffron Pasta

This delicate, yet filling pasta can be served alone, or paired with roasted vegetables, such as broccoli, for a complete meal.

With this, you can serve steamed asparagus or skillet green beans. For a fancy dinner, use scallops or cod.

What Makes This Meal So Great?

With the right pasta cooking time, this dish can be served in 15 minutes. It is a delicious and simple meal that will surprise you with its simplicity and flavor.

This is a perfect dinner for any occasion, and I suggest you serve it with something fresh and bright, such as a glass of Italian white wine.
