Pasta Rasta is not just a rhyming dish – it’s a bridge between classic Jamaican cuisine and Western influence. With Caribbean-style jerk shrimp and sauteed colorful bell peppers, Rasta Pasta is a creamy pasta dish. With its creamy, cheesy flavor and spicy shrimp, this dish makes a great weekend night dinner. It can be made in less than an hour.
What Is Rasta Pasta?
With three colors of bell peppers in Jamaican colors (yellow, red, green), plus shrimp spiced with jerk seasoning, Rasta pasta is a Jamaican-inspired dish. As the dish itself is very comforting, the cheese and creamy sauce make it just perfect. Shrimp can also be substituted with chicken. With the jerk seasoning, the pasta has a strong flavor and a spicy kick that is unlike anything we’ve ever tasted before.
What Type Of Pasta Should I Use?
Use any short pasta, such as penne, fusilli, or rigatoni. The awkwardness of eating long-cut strips of bell peppers and whole shrimp while swirling noodles makes long noodles unpopular. There is no rule that says you can’t use a long pasta, but short pasta is definitely easier to prepare.

How To Make Rasta Pasta
-
Prepare your ingredients before you begin cooking. It will make the process easier.
-
After deveining the shrimp, season them with jerk seasoning and marinate them for ten minutes or more.
-
Follow the directions on the package when cooking the pasta.
-
In order to ensure your pasta is cooked perfectly and without sticking together, cook it in a pot filled with water. The water (and lots of it) is more important than oil, which many people tend to overuse.
-
If you won’t be combining the pasta with the sauce immediately after cooking, you can toss it with some olive oil to prevent clumping.
-
-
Over medium-high heat, cook the shrimp for 2–3 minutes per side.
-
The shrimp should be removed from the skillet after they are cooked and the bell peppers should be cooked along with spices.
-
Stir in heavy cream and cheese until melted.
-
Toss the pasta and shrimp into the sauce once it is smooth, then stir everything together until it is evenly coated.
-
Warm pasta before serving.
Tips On Making The Rasta Pasta
It’s also fine to use leftover cooked shrimp – just add them to the creamy sauce and let them reheat for a minute, until they soak up the flavors.
Instead of pasta, you can use zoodles, replace dairy with almond milk and vegan cheese, and replace shrimp with zucchini, eggplant, or mushrooms if you want to make this recipe vegan or vegetarian.
You can reheat cold pasta in a microwave or stovetop if it has sat on the counter for a long time.
